Centennial School District provides a full continuum of special education and related services depending on each student's unique special education needs.

Vision

- Inspire all students to be life-long learners and productive citizens.

Philosophy of Special Education

- Students with disabilities are members of the total student body.
- All students can learn.
- Special education is special instruction designed to meet the individual needs of the student;
it includes instruction and services necessary for the student to benefit from the education program.
- Special education is not a place; it represents a process and services.
- Special education is a sound investment in our children.
- Students with special needs should be educated to the extent possible with students who do not have disabilities.
- Appropriate social behavior and communication skills are essential for success in all areas of life.
- Quality education is a result of appropriate programming and collaboration among students, parents,
special services staff, general education staff, and the community.
- Students need to develop the strategies and tools necessary to strive towards becoming responsible,
independent learners and productive members of society.
- Curriculum should be functionally and developmentally appropriate.

What is Special Education?
A school provides a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) and thereby meets its substantive and procedural obligation
under the individuals with disabilities act (IDA) when it is appropriate:
-Classifies the student's educational handicap.
-Develops an individual education plan (IEP) that provides the student educational benefit.
-Places the student in appropriate school and classroom facilities.
-Affords the student suitable mainstreaming opportunities.
-Follows procedures that allow parents to participate in the IEP process.
Special Education = Specially designed instruction adapting as appropriate to the needs of an eligible student the content, methodology, and/or delivery of instruction.
