Pathways is an elective 9th grade School-To-Work class that
is computer and portfolio-based. Pathways incorporates the National
Career Development Guidelines and DISCOVER, a computer-based career
planning program. Students will be encouraged to take responsibility
for making life-work decisions. Students learn about themselves
and the World-of-Work by participating in the career planning
process. They identify career pathways of the World-of-Work Map
model, an extension of John Holland's hexagon. After selecting
their own individual pathways, students build a program of study
for grades 10-12 based upon that choice.
During grades 10-12, students continue career development activities,
some of which will be integrated into existing classes while others
will be available through the guidance services and the Career
Center. Students may continue using DISCOVER to assist them in
locating financial aid and making transitions to the World-of-Work.
Students progress is recorded in an electronic web-based program
called ECOS and is maintained over the four year period.
