To access federal and state grants, loans, and work study for
college, seniors will need to fill out the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov. Improvements have been
made to the FAFSA to allow the direct transfer of tax data from
the IRS to your student’s FAFSA. If you file your federal
taxes electronically, your tax data should be available to transfer
within two weeks after you have received your confirmation from
the IRS that your taxes were accepted. Using IRS data retrieval
will auto-fill the FAFSA and eliminate the need to verify your tax
information saving you time. The 2012-13 FAFSA will offer IRS data
retrieval beginning Feb. 1, 2012. Apply as early as you can for
financial aid.
