With just four voices and a tambourine, Tonic Sol-fa has spent the past decade on the road carving their niche as the nation’s top vocal group.

School nurse named top administrator
Centennial School District Nurse Donna McKenny was named School Nurse Administrator of the Year by the School Nurse Organization of Minnesota. A 22-year employee, Donna is the lead health professional for the district.
She supervises a highly qualified staff located at each school, successfully manages the budget, coordinates and assists in various health-related screenings,serves on various district committees, and manages to be an integral part of the high school staff.

Donna sits on student assistance team meetings, provides in-service training to a variety of staff on various health-related topics, and co-coordinates the district’s Early Childhood Screening program. The association will submit Donna’s name to their national affiliate for consideration as National School Nurse Administrator of the Year.

Are you on the census?
Families with pre-school children (from birth to kindergarten age) are encouraged and invited to be sure each child is on the Centennial School District census. Complete a census form by clicking on the link or do it over the phone by calling the district receptionist
at 763-792-6000.

 

Kindergarten registration set
Registration packets were handed out to parents at the Jan. 31 Kindergarten Information Session and mailed Feb. 1 to parents who were unable to attend. Kindergarten registration dates are scheduled later in February. For more information click here

Foundation Gala set for Feb. 25
Get your tickets now for the Centennial Education Foundation annual gala and fund raising event. The evening begins at 6 pm with a silent auction followed by dinner and entertainment at Majestic Oaks Golf Club, Ham Lake. Click for tickets and information.

Apply for local scholarship
Centennial Local Scholarship applications are available online (Centennial High School – CHS - website) through Feb. 24. By completing one application, students are eligible for over 30 scholarships from local and state community members, Centennial Education Foundation (CAEF) and district staff. A staff/community member committee will select recipients based on: academics, school involvement, essay, financial need, community involvement and college major. Students may also complete the CAEF essay for several scholarships. Applicants must be full-time CHS seniors (PSEO, 916 and work programs qualify), and plan to pursue post-secondary education in Fall 2012. Applications are due noon, Friday, Feb. 24 to Sally Nelson or Debbie Kerschner in the White Office. For information contact Angie Law (763-792-5009) or Leslye Erzberger (763-792-5089).

The GED test is changing
The clock is ticking as a new GED test is being developed. Students who have not passed all five parts that comprise the current test will need to start over after January, 2014. The new test will be more rigorous. The time to earn your GED is now. Don't procrastinate. Call Centennial ACE (Adult Continuing Education) today - 763-398-2980. Click for information.

Nominees sought for Invest in Education Award
Know a student or adult who has invested in the Centennial community that you'd like to see recognized for their work? You can nominate them for a CAEF (Centennial Area Education Foundation) Investment in Education Award. The deadline is Feb. 10. Go to the CAEF website for more information and the nomination form. Savings top $240,000
The savings are still rolling in following implementation of energy improvements and a new energy awareness program within the district. Reported results through September indicate overall savings at $245,634.
Reducing current and future operating costs is the goal of the energy efficiency effort underway in partnership with McKinstry, a local engineering and energy services company.

 Moonlight open swim set
Join the fun at Centennial Community Pool from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursday from Jan. 9-March 1. The Moonlight Open Swim fee is $2 per person or $5 per family. The pool is located in the Centennial High School Red Building, door D13.
