Centennial School District purchased the 55-acre Rice Lake Elementary School site from Harold Lehman and Irene and Hugo Jorgenson in 1991. Rice Lake School was opened in the Fall of 1992. Before the land was settled, the wild rice, lakes and large number of animals attracted the Native Americans who camped on the shore of Rice Lake, hunted, fished, and harvested the rice. The beautiful school site we enjoy today is the result of both Harold Lehman and Irene and Hugo Jorgenson's willingness to have their land serve the greater common good of our community. The Centennial School Board is extremely grateful for the contribution and cooperation of these community minded citizens. |
